Six Essential Spring Coat Styles

Depending on where you live, it may not feel like spring yet but per the calendar we are officially in the spring season! Today I want to share with you six types of coats that you need in your closet to style for spring. None of these should be a surprise, because they are styles that keep coming back year after year--this makes them wardrobe essentials in my book. In today's post you will see ways that I have styled these six essential spring coats, as well as widgets to scroll through and shop more of my picks for each of the styles.

1) Utility Jacket
Equally wearable with jeans and your favorite spring dresses, a utility jacket or military jacket is a versatile addition to any closet. I purchased mine last year, but the same style is back again this year and you can find it here. It runs a little small, so I sized up to a small for reference. This jacket traveled with me to both Italy and Montreal last year, with the below photo taken at Mount Royal's large observation deck.

2) Trench Coat
Always a classic, this khaki Burberry trench coat was my first fashion investment piece purchased toward the end of collage that will never go out of style. In addition to this khaki trench coat, I also have a cherry red trench coat for days when I want to add a pop of bright color! This spring, if you already have a classic trench coat I would look for a pastel color like soft pink or draped style.

3) Bomber Jacket
This is the trendiest coat on my list of spring essential styles, but they have been so popular the last few years that I felt a spot was deserved. Bomber jackets add an ultra-cool factor to any outfit whether you are wearing one with your favorite casual dress, skirt, or jeans. This spring, transition from thicker quilted styles to a lighter weight one like the examples featured below.

4) Denim Jacket
The all-American classic, I think everyone either has a denim jacket in their closet or has had one at some point in time. Mine has traveled with me quite often, including to Belize and Italy in the last year. If you need an updated denim jacket this year, you can choose to go with traditional, embroidered, oversize, or anywhere in between.

5) Lightweight Parka
A lightweight parka or rain jacket is especially useful here in the Pacific Northwest, where spring usually means 60 degrees and drizzling rain with a peek of sunshine here and there. The white lightweight parka I am wearing below is an older piece that went with me to Amsterdam in April 2014, and I still wear it now. I love the crisp, clean look of a white jacket as well as pretty spring colors like pink or green that you will see in the widget below.

6) Moto Jacket
This final spring coat style is a versatile one--you can find moto jackets in pretty much any color and texture you desire! Whether you prefer leather, faux leather, suede, or knit styles, I am loving all of the soft spring colors available like pastel blues, pinks, and yellows in addition to the traditional neutral tones. My faux leather moto jacket traveled with me to South Africa and this photo is from one of the wineries we visited in Stellenbosch.
